I'm Valerie Casey.
Over the past two decades, I've had the privilege of leading great teams building successful products, services, and businesses. I love challenging assumptions, shaping new behaviors, and changing markets.

I am the head of product design at Walmart where we create digitally enabled experiences for customers and employees. Our portfolio includes all customer products and services online and in the store, and employee tools in the retail environment, supply chain, and merchandising.

Prior to Walmart, I was Chief Product Officer at Samsung NEXT, the global innovation arm of Samsung. I've also held leadership positions at some of the most amazing design firms in the world. I was Head of Digital at IDEO, Global Executive Creative Director at frog, and Associate Partner at Pentagram.

Throughout my career I've consulted with different companies to identify new opportunities and run experiments to test product-market fit. I created and led innovation programs focusing on behavior change as an alternative to drug therapy for major healthcare companies: Sanofi, Merck, J&J, and Pfizer. Our work was called the "gold standard of open innovation" by Obama's White House. I built a network of entrepreneurs with the Mozilla Foundation to create low-cost ways to connect rural villages to the internet in India, South Africa, and Brazil. In the US, UK, and UAE, my team designed the Marc Cuban-backed healthy fast-food chain: Naked Pizza. I've also advised Magic Leap, Malala Fund, and HopeLab on brand and product strategy.

I founded the Designers Accord, the coalition of designers, educators, and business leaders working together to create positive social and environmental impact. From 2007 to 2018, the Designers Accord helped advance the conversation around the ethics, practices, and responsibilities of the creative community. Over half a million designers engaged with the Designers Accord. Our final international project was Creative Power Day.

I am a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute, and was honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader.

I've been named one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company magazine, a Guru of the year by Fortune magazine, a Hero of the Environment by TIME magazine, a Master of Design by Fast Company, one of the World's Most Influential Designers by Businessweek, and a Tech Titan by The Irish Times.

I have spoken at Davos several times, keynoted at SXSW, European Trend Day, and PINC, and written for Fast Company, the Huffington Post, and Core77. My favorite topics are connecting business and design, design culture, the bias against creativity, system thinking, environmental issues, and social impact.

I have served on several boards including the World Economic Forum Global Futures Council on Innovation & Entrepreneurship, World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Design & Innovation, Kleiner Perkins Design Council, Sustainable Brands Advisory Board, Sanofi Customer Innovation Board. I am also a member of the Japan Society Innovators Network.

I did my graduate work at Yale in cultural theory, my undergrad at Swarthmore College in English, and I completed Major coursework in Psychology at Trinity College Dublin.
